Governance

The Creator Collective is founded on the principle of inclusive governance, ensuring that decision-making is not concentrated in a small group but shared meaningfully with the broader membership. While a traditional Board of Directors is in place, its composition, leadership appointment mechanisms, and decision-making processes are intentionally designed to integrate the general membership.

This structure helps prevent the pitfalls of top-down governance by:

  • Encouraging member participation in nominations and elections.
  • Creating transparent pathways for leadership development.
  • Ensuring that major decisions reflect the collective will and values of the membership.

Through this approach, the Collective maintains accountability, diversity of thought, and democratic integrity in its operations.

Structure

The Governance structure of The Collective is as follows:

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors is the central governing body responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, financial health, and operational integrity of The Collective. It ensures that the organization remains mission-aligned, legally compliant, and fiscally responsible. Board members are elected through a structured process and serve staggered terms to maintain continuity. While the Board holds formal authority, it operates in coordination with member-driven processes and committees, ensuring decisions are informed by the broader community and reflective of collective priorities.

Management

This team is responsible for the day-to-day operations, administrative oversight, and implementation of strategic initiatives within The Collective. This group operates under the direction of the Board of Directors and is accountable for executing board-approved policies, managing resources, and supporting member-driven programs.

While the Board sets the strategic vision, Executive Management ensures its practical delivery coordinating staff, managing finances, and maintaining operational continuity. Their role is distinct from governance, focusing on execution, compliance, and organizational effectiveness, while remaining responsive to the values and priorities of the membership.

Subcommittees

Subcommittees are specialized working groups formed to research, develop, and recommend actions on specific matters within The Collective. They may be initiated by the Board or by members, and are composed of individuals selected from the Nomination Pool based on relevance, eligibility, and representation needs.

Key subcommittees will hold decision-making authority that is binding on both Management and the Board, ensuring that governance remains distributed, accountable, and responsive to collective input.

Proposals

Proposals are a structured process that enables members to submit, develop, and advance initiatives through standardized formats and collaborative subcommittees. It ensures that all proposals are evaluated fairly, refined transparently, and routed appropriately for either Board or General Membership votes.

This system reinforces The Collective’s commitment to democratic participation, accountability, and member-driven governance to ensuring that decisions reflect collective input and are guided by clear procedures from submission to final vote.

Appointments

As part of The Collective’s inclusive governance model, leadership appointments are determined through a hybrid system of random selection and member voting.

  • At the start of each calendar year, a Master Nomination Pool is created from eligible members who meet defined criteria and opt in.
  • For each appointment cycle, a smaller nomination pool is drawn from the Master Pool, tailored to the needs of the role.

Board appointments are made through a ranked-choice vote from the relevant nomination pool, ensuring democratic selection.

Subcommittee appointments (for Board-initiated subcommittees) are filled by random selection from the appropriate nomination pool, promoting fairness and diversity in participation.
